With a new administration at our elementary school,
the kids are enjoying some new energy, ideas and programs.
One of which is Walking Wednesday, a green idea.
Everyone in the school has been asked to walk together to school on the last Wednesday of the month; preserving energy and resources, promoting healthy habits and a sense of community. They not only ask that we walk together, they have designated meeting areas with teachers and staff at those places, waiting to walk with the kids. This ensures that the kids can walk safely to school and are able to join in the fun, even if their parents are not able to walk with them.
Walking Wednesday had a great turnout of kids and school staff!
Walking Wednesday was a huge hit with my kids!
Even though we often walk to school in the mornings, the idea of walking with our neighborhood had them so excited that they were up and ready to go very early! Our meeting time was 7:15 AM; they were wanting to leave by 6:40 AM. Every few minutes they would ask me if we could leave yet.
We started walking earlier than needed (very much in the dark) and then just waited for everyone to congregate at the designated spot (and watched the sun rise).
What a great idea!
Looks like fun!

I walk to school every day! But I definitely am not even awake at 6:40. Even when I get up "early" to do homework, I don't get up until 7.
I miss you guys! Hope that you are having fun!
And I agree with Marilyn. That is a totally sweet idea!

Emily,
I meant to mention that, yes, we did hear the band! In fact, we heard it all morning and you sounded terrific. That happens to be a part of my morning walk that I really enjoy. Yesterday, on the way home from the school, I was all alone and listening to the band. Every morning I try to listen for the french horns! :)
Love you,
Mom

This is a VERY cool idea. I can't believe the droves of kids. Very earth-friendly, Greg will love hearing about this and the photos tell the story so well.
