TO TAKE PART, however small, in an election that is sure to be talked about and read about in the history books for many years to come is really something. (No matter what your political preference).
President Elect Barack Obama and his darling family after their landslide victory.
I was impressed by the classy manner in which Senator McCain conceded the election on Tuesday night. His speech was the best I have heard from him. I did wonder as I listened to him if he felt even just a bit of relief that he will not have to take office in this most challenging time.
President Elect Obama seemed a bit sober as he claimed victory. What an overwhelming and awesome responsibility to take on at this time in our Nation.
America is an amazing country. After all of the debates and opinions, the nation unites and there is again a peaceful transition of power.
What a historic year. The years to come will certainly be challenging.

I too am so grateful we live in a nation where the votes count. And stick. There's no militia to rise up and "change our minds". We honor what the majority has decided. And I am so grateful to live in such an historic time. The first black president of the United States of America is pretty amazing. Now maybe we can have a woman president too. It's so nice to see the vestiges of racial tension fade. I know there are still people out there who aren't as accepting of others, but as a nation, I think we've taken the next step toward a racial harmony.

We let our kids stay up and see all the speeches. I agree with you; regardless of your political preference, it was a historic day and hopefully one that will lead to a little more healing of old wounds.
