Where the improbable (slightly fishy) tale began:
On a lazy, summer afternoon, we found ourselves floating around a
beautiful lake, taking in the sweet, warm breeze of summer and casting
our lines in hopes of bringing home the catch of the day.
Once the fish began to bite, excitement built.
When Grandpa Rich caught this whopper, he and the kids were all thrilled. But soon after this moment of delight, while stringing the biggest portion of what would soon be dinner onto the line, he lost it. Even with the net reaching as far as possible outside the boat and the boat turning toward the escapee, it could not be reached.
All of a sudden, Emily yelled, "I'll get it!" and she jumped into the lake - glasses and all - to retrieve her grandpa's catch that got away.
She jumped and squirmed, screamed and giggled yet remained completely determined while she tried to get her hands on it. For a few moments no one was sure whether she would be victorious...
but the fish that got away was returned safely to the net, restrung, and then made it's grand appearance at the dinner table that evening smothered in lemon-pepper and butter! :)
This little girl who would cut worms in half, put worms on hooks, talked to them and gave them all names, would not hold the fish she caught! She thought "THAT would be disgusting!"
She cracks me up! (Her grandparents thought she was pretty funny as well).
When the kids were not fishing, they joined their worm loving chums (actually trout) and had a great time floating and swimming around in the lake.
This fish out of water is the one I caught and reeled in nearly 21 years ago.
Im glad we got to go fishing!!
