EVEN THOUGH it feels strange to share these simple ideas. (For me, the simpler the better!)
Since so many of you asked for more lunch ideas, here are a couple of others that work well for us.
Toppings: whatever you love!
The kids like it with Miracle-Whip and deli-sliced sandwich meat and cheese. A soft cheese such as muenster or provolone rolls the best, sometimes I put a cheese stick in the middle and they love that too.
You could make these vegetarian also, just slice the veggies quite thin. Can't you see some cute sprouts shooting out of the top? Well, if you like sprouts you could probably envision that, if you don't, sorry I brought them up.
Pudding. I like to occasionally put something fun and unexpected into their lunches. I make the pudding and store it in these (Glad) mini containers. I buy the containers when they are marked down so I can have them on hand when I need them. The kids usually bring them home for another use, but if something happens and they are thrown away, it isn't a great loss. They are a great size for little treats such as these.
A vanilla wafer will sit on the bottom, fill it with vanilla pudding and a few slices of banana and voila, banana pudding. I will do this with a little graham cracker crust, vanilla pudding and bananas with a touch of whipped cream for a little BC pie! Yum!
Chocolate with a little surprise inside, or some cream alternated.
You get the idea, I could go on and on...
I do buy and use these as well as small water bottles in their lunches. These become frozen and are my ice packs as well as the drink. I learned very early on (with Nathan) that no matter how cute my ice packs were (and they were so very fun and cute!), they would NOT find their way home. I decided to start freezing these to see if it would work AND it does! The kids get a cold lunch that stays cold, and a very cold drink and they can throw it all out (or recycle the bottles).
Hopefully, this will be helpful to someone.
Enjoy!
MM Good!

Great ideas. Wish I had them forty or fifty years ago. Paper bags and waxed paper were all we had then . . no pudding, no drinks, just twinkies and the drinking fountain. Ugh

Your tortilla sandwich is a wonderful idea. I love the string cheese idea, also.
