Smash is working on a self portrait for an art project at school.
He took a photo of his face in the mirror as a guide and has been sketching as he finds a few minutes here and there.
This is his work - in progress:
(He has already changed one eye since he took the photo, he's very particular).
Smash took a photo of it with my cell phone so he could send it to Nathan; can't wait to hear what Nathan thinks of it.
His nose is pulled off to the side because of what his mouth is doing - he is pulling a face.
Since it was on my cell, I thought it would be fun to share it here (at an early stage).
This is amazing to me!
Portraits are difficult to do. The details matter, a lot; such as, being able to convey a person's expression and unique traits within the strokes.
This is the first time that Smash has been able to find enough time in his school schedule to take an art class.
He has always had an interest in art and seemed to have a natural ability for it as well; it looks to me like his talent is growing!
Since I feel like a work in progress, I wish Smash could create a new me with a few particularly placed pencil strokes.
This is awesome! Artistic ability is not something that I have been blessed with, but I appreciate other people's artistic talent.
I never knew Smash was interested in art. I think it's great that he's getting a chance to explore this now. There were lots of things I was interested in in high school, but never enough to give up band. Now, I wouldn't trade my band experience for anything, but if I had had more time, I probably also would have tried my hand (well, whole self) at theater. So, anyway. Way to go Smash!

I have 2 favorite parts. Your eyes, and the self portrait on the back of this one :)
Keep up the good work!!
