I love the look of the track and field ready for action! Don't you? So colorful!
Smash has been competing about twice a week with the varsity track team.
He loves the pole vault.
Watching him is such a thrill.
It's exciting to see him take off with pole in hand, plant that pole firmly in the ground and have it hoist his body high in the air towards the target - a bar well beyond his reach.
There is such great anticipation as we watch his body shoot up and over the bar. Breathing isn't even an option for me until he is on the other side of that high bar and on his way down to the mat below.
Some competition days are tougher than others. Not all end the way he hopes.
But I am amazed every time, no matter the outcome, at how athletic, agile and fearless he is; it is just plain cool to see!
Last Saturday he didn't vault quite as high as he had hoped he would, so he seemed a little disappointed.
I thought he did great and I loved each minute of it.
Check out on of his warm-up exercises:
On his right side is a tiny pole, can you see the tip of it coming up between his thumb and fingers? He moves that pole from side to side as he goes from a sitting position (shown in photo below) to the position (above) on his shoulders. Great abdominal work out, don't you think?
It's amazing to watch!
